Another one ready to go on the road, just some plates and insurance. Washed off the dust and drove around the block. 😅

Machine shop is supposed to be done with my engine parts very soon.
I will be doing my own assembly.
Somewhat radical 327 (Solid lifters, 9.75-1 forged pistons, 4x44IDF Webers, aluminum flywheel, etc.) going into my '68 El Camino.
With the engine built I will no longer be able to put off assembling the car.
It may be the only El Camino sports car, Jag IRS rear, fiberglass front clip to shed weight, RR oil pan, etc.
Cannot be a "Pro-Street" as I am keeping my old school 15" wheels.

Where are the pics of yours?

My build is on el Camino central, maybe 4-5 years ago. Some are on photo bucket still.   I also put some on my , “painting again thread here in the ,off topic section.  I have some on instagram under Christinekaczmarek71 .
It wasn’t a frame off but should have been. The lower subframe was tedious cut out , re fabricated and welded back in .  All new floor panels and quarters .   New glass and dash, exhaust 22 gal fuel tank . . I built it for my daughter and her husband but they lost interest .  Mild cam and mostly stock 350 with a th250 automatic trans.  Open rear .

Pretty mild, should be an easy driver.
What I intended before getting carried away with the deals I found on trick parts.
Once I decided to go "Day two+" it really snowballed.

G-Body are the lightest of El Camino's and actually have some Aero to them.
My 78 was great but I sold it and got my 68.

Here it is just after I got it, lots of work done since.
Now in pieces slowly headed toward reassembly.

I needed a reasonable solution to a 85 mph speedometer after waiting for over 3 years to upgrade to a grand national 140mph assembly. The speedometer that came with the car didn’t work. After buying a cable for that year and make sadly the cable didn’t fit into the back of this speedometer. So I left it unassembled . With entire clusters going for well over $1k and individual gauges very rare I decided to just repair it for the time being.
Shaped it from a plastic model component holder. Notched the backside of the needle to glue to the existing needle. I still need to paint it but it should last and work. The entire dash was recovered and now just finishing the upgrades.

I once made a late start run to Phoenix AZ from a little south of Reno NV in my '78.
HAD to be there early the next morning.
All I can say on a public forum is that the politically correct 85 MPH is just a suggestion, and the needle will pass it by a significant margin if you have a healthy engine.
Intent of my '68 is that it will be much healthier, and the new speedo reads to 200 MPH so will never run out of dial. ;)
