For reference I have a similar setup to Tom (but in RHD form).
It works fine and clearance to the rack is OK with remote reservoirs located where you can get to them easily.
However, if starting from scratch for a competition car, I think I would go with a top hung pedal box and build in some fore-aft adjustment.
Aside from the fine tuning pedal position adjustment, you probably gain some potential legroom or options for exactly where you mount the drivers seat.
