FS -Palm Springs, Ca 69 S2 - SOLD
« on: Saturday,June 19, 2021, 02:53:16 PM »
I’m posting this 1969 S2 Europa for sale for a friend of mine.

The car is located in Palm Springs, California. Prior to being parked in his driveway for the last two years, the S2 was in running condition. This is the sad story of how the S2 came to be in this non running condition. After the car got a new paint job, the owner decided to continue with additional upgrades. This included a new koa wood dashboard and  possibly a new crashpad. At this time the complications started. The windshield was removed to facilitate the removal of the crashpad and the dashboard. The owner hired a person to do the new dashboard installation. Unfortunately, the so called mechanic pulled wires off without labeling any of the wires. Not trusting that the wiring job was done correctly, the owner is hesitant to power up the car to test the electrical system. This is how the car now sits. The owner doesn’t have the time or inclination to check the wiring and is selling the car as is. It doesn’t help that his wife is unhappy that a non running car is polluting the driveway.
-New red paint job about three years ago
-Chrome and bright work are in excellent condition.
 -AVO dampers and springs
 -Adjustable lower links
 -Tubular exhaust system
 -New koa wood dashboard
-There are 3-4 years of California registration back fees to be paid. Car did not go under Planned non op status
 -Many extra parts
 -Asking $12,000

Call Eric at  760- 408-7746

Edit 8/14/21. Seller has decided to change the asking price to $12k after reviewing the amount of spares and the upgraded parts on the car.

Nice looking Europa. That will make a fine project. I wish him luck in the sale.

I think his wife has the wrong attitude about it, though. When it comes to non-running yard art, that’s as cool as it gets, and regarding such endeavours, should be considered the pride of the neighbourhood.  ;)
The Twin Cam plays the symphony whilst my right foot conducts the orchestra. At 3800 rpm the Mad Pipe Organ joins in.

How does it work with the back fees if it’s sold going out of state? Do they still have to be paid? Is it a portion of the licensing fees? How are they calculated?

Dan, I believe the back fees only apply if registering the car in California. Check with your DMV but I don't think the back fees for out of state transfer will need to be paid. Here in California, back fees can be high depending how long the car was last registered. With my TCS, I let the registration lapse without going the Planned Non-Op status for about 25 years. When I tried to re-register the car three years ago, the back fee was around $700, hefty but not enough to choke a goat. I paid it, learned my lesson.

So long as there is a clear title, if the car were to escape to Nevada the back fees would become irrelevant.
CA likes to hold title hostage for back fee's when they can get away with it. But if the seller has a pink in hand there is nothing CA can do.

I had seen Eric's car in person in July 2017. I'm surprise it is still for sale.

I don't think he's advertised since that first time on Craigslist three or four years ago. That's when I met Eric and his Europa.

I've had a complaint that Eric is not responding to phone calls. PM me and I'll forward his email to you.

Wiring is really not THAT complicated.
Annoying, awkward, and important, but not impossible.
Not answering calls, maybe not really wanting to sell?

Sounds like Eric. That actually happened to my friend three years ago. Eric agreed on the deal. My friend tried to contact him the very next day to get bank wire info but Eric never had the courtesy to return the calls.

Well in my opinion this S2 is a good solid project that needs a bit of patience to complete. Everything should be there to get it in running condition. It's not rusting away in Palm Springs but the heat and wind can do their damage the longer it sits outside.

I've been to Palm Springs.
Makes my No. Nevada climate look mild.
Sun will kill the car if it is not put inside soon.
Upholstery dries and splits, paint bubbles, fades, and peels!
Rubber dries out and cracks, then the rain gets inside.
I do not have the funds for it or I would drive down and camp on his doorstep.

Friend of mine has committed to buy this car.
Seller is out of town for a few days or it would be a done deal.

I spoke with the seller last night and this morning, he is around. I’d suggest you friend reach out to the seller as the car seems to be available still.

I will sit tight for a day or so, not keen on stepping into any bad feelings.
