Water temp sender unit
« on: Thursday,June 05, 2025, 04:23:48 AM »
I’m looking for a water temp sender unit for a 1565 Renault engine (1971) for my Europa. Normal routes so far have not been able to supply one. I did find one on eBay that assured me it was right but much as it fitted well it gave me a readout of 120 deg when warm so not really doing what I wanted. Tried adding all sorts of variable resisters to bring it down to same operating resistance but that route is flawed as haven’t succeeded. So back to the goal of finding a replacement sender. Any help would be welcomed as don’t like driving her without knowing her water temp is good!

I always get in trouble when I reply about S2s and yet here I go…

I believe Lotus always used Smiths gauges and your pictures sure look like a Smiths temperature sender so finding a replacement should be easy. Any Smiths dealer should have them.

But then I looked on SJ Sportscars web site and found this https://www.sjsportscars.com/parts-and-accessories.htm#searchresults so it seems like both eBay seller and I made the same mistake!
