Help needed! Anyone near Sutton-in-Ashfield, UK?
« on: Tuesday,August 25, 2015, 06:13:52 AM »
I have won an item on ebay and the fellow wants pick up only- no shipping.  I am in the USA.  I have a friend in Huddersfield, if someone could pick up and ship there or to me.  Of course I will pay any expenses and for your time.  It's a Zetec intake/plenum I need for my turbo set-up.  These parts were never installed in US cars.

Hi Karl,

I'm not close to there and don't know if anyone else is, but in the event that no-one can help here's one thing you could try with your seller.

A lot of courier services in the UK will allow you to book a collection from a private house (or business) and deliver to your destination, so in theory if the seller agrees you could arrange your own courier service to pick it up and send it to you.  As far as the seller goes it's no more inconvenient than arranging a personal pick-up and I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work.

There are several courier services around, google will give you dozens. One I've seen in use is "Parcel to go", probably not the cheapest but it's an alternative idea.

I looked at similar things when I was looking for some wheels on Ebay and the sellers said "collect only". Which really is a bit silly because it means your potential market is a 10-20 mile radius rather than country wide but hey....  I just asked if they'd go along with it and if not, I didn't bid.

I've done the same with a set of wheels in the UK,  I arranged for a courier to pick them up and deliver them to the consolidating company that the shop I used to work at, used for our UK shipments.  The seller grumbled a bit due to the courier not arriving at the correct time, but it worked reasonably well.
