Just confirming...according to the book...both the later 4 and 5 speeds take 1.75 L (3.6 US pints) tranny oil? I know...just drain, and then fill till it dribbles out the filler hole...just wanted to make sure had the right amount on hand (I have 4 L of Miller's on the shelf...)

Yep, you got it Bryan. The Workshop manual and the owner's manual both list the tranny oil capacity as 1.75 liters or 3.6 US pints. Your 4 liters will be plenty.

Great. Now to get that blasted drain plug out. My snap-on 10mm open end was just starting to round off the square head, so I stopped. Any insight into how to loosen it up (assuming it's dissimilar corrosion that is locking it in place.) There's about 3 threads showing proud of the case. Mole/vice grips? That seems somewhat a redneck solution...
Side plug comes out just fine.

My only snap-on tool is a 10mm square socket for that very plug. Works great

I filed my drain plug so it would fit in a 3/8" 8 point socket. I didn't realize that 10mm 8 point sockets were easy to come by!
So when I searched for one to give you a link, can I find one? NO!!! I swear after I filed my plug, I saw a couple on ebay!! Of course, that was when I didn't need one any more! I did find this 3/8" 8-point (https://www.ebay.com/itm/226199280395) so you can file your plug like I did and use the 3/8" 8 point socket. It's not that difficult to do.

Thanks! Knew there had to be some purpose-built tool out there for this!

Tool of last resort! Hoping do not have to go there...(left message with my local tool truck dealer (snap on...not the other stuff) with the part number and ordered it. :) Sent me message back he'll leave it at the hangar with the front desk...

I miss my Snap-on tool truck. Company payroll deduction of only $25. now that retired bringing back broken items is a nightmare.

Brian, I'm filling up my transaxle and just put 3-3/4 pts of Redline MT-90 and it has not yet dripped out of the fill hole. Guess I'll stop there...no risk of overfilling I suppose though. I found this magnetic 3/8 NPT drain plug that fits snuggly. The magnetic M18 x 1.5 drain plug is swell also.

Our guy only comes by every other week now (previous truck guy was a pilot, so he came by on the dime first thing every morning since he parked his truck and plugged it in to keep the interior light battery charged in back of the mtce hangar...did a lot of damage to my checkbook having the truck that accessible...lol). FBO called me this morning to say he dropped the socket off last night.
Going to work on my carbs this afternoon and tomorrow and put the overhauled set from Joe Curto on; the tranny oiil can wait a week till I get back to MA.

Still, it must be nice, I have a drawful of broken sockets and ratchets that need replacement. lifetime warrantee is a great thing.
Doing everything through the mail is terrible.

That reminds me of when a buddy of mine was taking his floor jack apart and couldn't get a screw to turn. One guy stood on the end of the screwdriver with it point down into the screwhead and another guy grabbed the square shank with a crescent wrench. He got the screw loose but the screwdriver was toast. He got a replacement (of course, he didn't say how it broke!! Another buddy of mine broke his Craftsman flexhead ratchet (it the '70s when they were made in the USA and sold from Sears). He took it to Sears and wanted a replacement. They gave him a rebuild kit instead and sent him home. Some time later, it broke again. He went to Sears and asked for a replacement again. As I remember they gave him another rebuild kit. Well, that broke again so he went back to Sears. They wanted to give him another rebuild kit but he raised enough hell that they gave him a new ratchet. That's the worst experience I've heard from Craftsman customer service.
For my part, much of my Chraftsman stuff is 50 years old and I've never had a problem with any of it - well, I did have a click torque wrench seize up. I've also bought some "cheap" stuff at Harbor Freight or Northern Tool. I've had no problems with them either but they have not had a really hard life. Or maybe I've been lucky...

Do not under fill a Renault transaxle! Especially a 365 where 5th gear is easily left high and dry!! The 100%, #1 killer of 365 transaxles is low oil levels.
Fill it ALL the way up and make sure it stays FULL.
