Title: '73 Europa TCS w/Stromberg Head & 4spd On BaT
Post by: Vegantune on Tuesday,November 12, 2024, 11:43:43 AM
Would have been built/invoiced around Oct or Nov 1972. Speedo show 06260, but engine repair invoice on 11/04/1991 show 50,361 - seller notes it was reset, and says now probably around 63K. Crossover pipes, vapor tank, and boosters deleted, wheel flares and headers added, plus Panasport rims. Whole lotta stress cracks in some photos, and passenger door had big cracks from some kind of impact. But looks like those got fixed, or mostly, based on later Kansas plate leading pics. And it does have an nice ashtray. Having 205's on rear 15" rims is fine, but not smart on fronts IMHO.

It went for $15,000. Very anticlimactic bidding at the end. There didn't seem to be many people watching. It was a nice enough car. but I didn't think it was anything special. I thought the buyer got a good deal and seeing as how the seller didn't seem to be present at the end, it seemed like he just wanted to be rid of it - and that's what he got.

BDA  somewhat agree, while I have never lived with a Lotus I would say that Bryan Boyle's car at $20,000 plus parts is a bargain compared to this one.

Without a doubt. If you’re interested in “living with a Lotus” Bryan is pretty much a known quantity and without seeing it, I’m confident he built a super car! You’re sure to do a lot worse than buying his car

UPDATE!

This car DID NOT SELL on BaT! Not sure why BaT is still showing it as a sale but according to the present owner the BaT buyer flaked and the new owner, (a car dealer for over 30 years) bought the car of a Marketplace type ad.

He sent me this video of the day he went to see and bought the car. You can fast forward through some of him talking with his wife about sights and supper. https://youtu.be/bIGVEd1m5n4?si=SU8WcU7cjBdz-JtY

He is going to be doing another video showing what he is/has done to ready it for sale. He says he’ll be asking $20k

Lots of BAT actions don't go through.  I've bought one after the BAT auction failed to go through.  Buyer was a fool.  It is a great vehicle.

I guess there are two train s of thought on this. One, if the winning bidder doesn’t go after his 5% fee and/or the actual sale is months after the close of the auction plus doesn’t go through BaT then they would have no way of knowing. The other is that BaT wants to keep its “SOLD” percentages higher and having more sales fall through would not be good for their business.
I think some of the bidders on the black Alberta TCS that just closed were using this white car selling at $15k US as a guide price and didn’t feel the black TCS warranted going higher. I disagree but we didn’t bid because I’m hoping to get a turnkey car here in Ontario. That is if the owner ever gets all the gremlins worked out and lets us see the finished, running car.
