Title: Where to get the Good points for an S2?
Post by: Richard48Y on Wednesday,March 15, 2023, 05:02:59 PM
Red S2 should be here tomorrow or Friday.
Going to give it a full service, tune up, carb rebuild, tank flush, etc.
Fluids and hoses are easy but not sure where to get a points set.

The usual Lotus suppliers will have them.  Rock Auto, Napa, etc, maybe.

Saw another thread that mentioned modern quality varies quite bit.
Not sure who is good anymore with so many "American" brands now made in China.

If you can wait a couple days, IIRC I have a fresh set of Renault points back in PA still in the wrapper, but I'm up in MA right now, not going back till the weekend.  If I have them, they're yours (since I have no further need of them..)

Why not just fit electronic ignition and do away with CB points ? I know that points will work fine, have done for many years and are a known route but on the other side, electronic ignitions also work these days.

My cars have TC engines but there's still the ever present snag of "are these CB points ok or made of mickey mouse metal ?". So for me electronic ignition removes one potential issue, plus of course there's no need to check the things every few months !

I already have a car that uses up money too quickly.
Plan is to get this one running well ASAP at moderate cost, upgrades may come later.
It is going to require a paint job, so will still be supporting the economy in plenty.
