Wonder if that carb swap is any good?
-
I've heard that carb swap is a pretty good conversion. Not so sure I like the raised up fender openings and flares. Asking quite a bit for it.
-
At least their not too obtrusive. Nice car overall.

I am putting twin SU's on my car for better reliability and tuning
-
Making the mixture turn 90° doesn't sound like an improvement to me.
-
Many, if not most, folk seem the think DGV type Webers are all set strait out of the box. ::)
Somehow they are reliable but DCOE are not. :o ::)
In reality they require the same type of tuning for any but OEM use.
-
I wonder if the reason you hear about a lot of Europas that have been sitting for 20 or 30 years is that they started to run poorly and the owner couldn't find a shop that would even look at them because they had never seen Stromberg or DCOE carbs.
Maybe DGVs are less scary to repair shops and thus their attraction?
-
Strombergs as delivered are emissions carbs. They are designed to run lean, have bypass and temp compensation valves, and had plugs and fixed needles to prevent you from easily adjusting them. These are very tricky to set up even when you know what you are doing, and seldom stay in tune long. Switching over to Euro needles, adjustable dashpots, and disabling the funny valves makes them easy to set up and very reliable (change the needle jet while you are at it). Converted lots and lots of TR6s, late MGBs, Spitfires, late Midgets, and, yes, Lotuses. Ran just fine after that.
People and adjustment screws are a dangerous combination. SUs, Strombergs, DCOEs, bike derailleurs, whatever, show someone an adjusting screw and they will turn it. 99 times of a 100, it didn't need turning and they have made it worse. I synced and tuned 100s of cars that had been twiddled with by their owners.
