I need to double check this setting because I am assuming the 807 is the same as the 843, that I am setting, should be at 53 degrees. I have it set as per figure 1-45 A. I'll make a note if this is correct.
Numerous other manuals show straight with cam gallery on the 697 and 821.
Dakazman lo l you might need pics .

I just have it correct.
Found this under 807 but no mention of 843. When placing the dissy as pictured it ends up at a 53 degree angle .
I also learned the oil drain plug is different on the two engines 821/843 , different thread size.

Yup, 807 directions are correct. Just gets the distributor is the right spot if you have a vacuum advance or an angled-outlet distributor cap.
Different oil pans may have different drain plugs. You need to match the oil pan to the oil pump so the oil pick is properly located.

It goes to show you , ask questions . I almost installed a 821 oil pan on a 843 cross flow . The 821 is deeper. I had not even noticed the differences in the two . The oil pump pickup is the same for both. I have a bag of 2 and they are the same.
The oil drain plugs are different and in different locations.
THANK YOU . My first cross flow build is progressing pass a mock up. ( see 0453)

I have seen different pick-ups. No pics though.

I’ll get some pics up today, I’m turning the block over to get the head alignment pins out . I unscrewed them but my magnet won’t lift them out . Why fight gravity. The center of the pins are threaded maybe I can get a thread caught and pull it out .

What you refer to as alignment pins are just guide pins to keep head movement to a minimum as you install the head. The head is aligned by a permanent hollow dowel at one end and a tapered pin temporarily pushed through at the other. That's what you did, right?

JB , I
placed them where book showed . See pics , one comes out through the bottom. I took pcs of the entire process.
Also pics of the oil pump pickups, boy was I wrong, maybe I should have placed them next to each other sooner. The 821 have the deeper pans , I have two 821 and 1 843 . Luckily I didn’t get them mixed up.

I got the pins out 😅 an old sink stopper rod had done fine threads on it so I kept pressure on the threads inside pins and pulled them up lickiky split . Next time I’ll have a proper extraction rod . I vaguely remember going through this with the 821 head . Now I can torque it down.
