It is interesting.  Not being well versed on the Renault, what is the outer belt for?  Smog pump?

There are 3 pulleys on a r16 engine: Alternator, waterpump and cam. All the ancillaries are driven off the cam.

Kind regards,

Serge

I just joined the forum. This car should be in my driveway sometime next week  :trophy: I've no experience with Lotus, so expect to be asking some pretty dumb questions on the forum, soon  :))

Clearly there is some damage to the fibreglass on the driver's side rear, and probably a host of other things that need attention, too. Any particular expert comments on the auction photos would be interesting to me.

Hi Julian, and  :Welcome:

Don't worry about whether your questions are dumb or not, we all ask them at some point. And as someone once said to me as a young engineer, "the only dumb question is the one you don't ask before making a mistake".   (actually, I've cleaned that up, it wasn't "making a mistake"  :)  )

So take photos of anything that puzzles you and ask away.

The damage looks superficial to me, something that might take a fair bit of time to eradicate gel-coat crazing but nothing beyond a few Saturday mornings splashing resin around.  A fair bit of work inside but overall if I was buying a similar project over this side of the pond I'm sure I'd have paid more than you have for that car.

Julian,
welcome.  You have no idea how tempted I was to drive the twenty minutes and have a peek at the car.  But my project list is just to vast currently.  Keep us in the loop.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

As soon as I get the Europa I'll post with some more details and photos, in the main forum. I was looking for a project, and this car seems to fit the bill!
