Title: Back from paint
Post by: aspares on Saturday,May 30, 2020, 05:45:54 AM
My Europa is back from the paint shop and I am now starting to reassemble.
When putting the door glass frames back in place what would be the best sealant to use between the the frame and window opening?

What a great colour combination. The red interior works well.

She's looking great, aspares! Sorry I can't help with the sealer. I used black silicone and I'm glad you can't really see it.

I would use a butyl windshield sealant. Used that on my gasketed S1 windshield. It stays pliable and excess can be cleaned up with odorless mineral spirits (the white stuff). Test the odorless mineral spirits on an inconspicuous spot on your new paint. It did not harm my new paint.

+1 on the butyl.  Sometimes, not often, but sometimes, silicones can affect the paint.

Another +1 for the butyl , for joining rubber seals use 3M - AC-251 B-2 Black 3M - Standard Spec Windshield & Canopy Aerospace Sealant - 3.5 oz kt  I just purchased it myself.
I will also use it between the 1/4 window and aluminum frame . It is very strong and sticks to everything.

   Very nice paint job. 👏👏

The color is Calvary blue, its on toyota pick ups 2019, has some grey in it and I have really liked the color since I first looked at one.
Thanks for replies, looks like butyl will work well.

Your car looks great! I am going to be visiting a friend in Salem, CT this fall. Would love to meet up and see it in person if you will be around!
