Title: Series 1 project in Oregon
Post by: gideon on Wednesday,January 29, 2020, 09:26:54 AM
This appears to be complete and with no significant damage, but likely in need of the full frame out surgery. Asking $6000. VIN is 460435.

Nice.  It's an S1a and is missing the quarter and pop-out main door window and framing.  If someone on this list buys it, I have the door window bits as I converted mine to one piece windows.

This was for sale (in Colorado) last May via the Lotus Europa Facebook page, it looks like a fantastic project.

I am searching to buy and still trying to understand the market. If this car was for sale before and is such a fantastic project then why did it not sell. If the car was for sale here in the UK I would buy it.

99.9% of S1s will require a frame change.  The frame is fully enclosed and water and crap splashed up by the rear wheels makes its way under the frame and just sits there.  Unlike in the later models, the frame is sandwiched between two bonded body sections.  The frames are also not available.  You have to modify an early S2 frame to suit.  It's a big job.  Just doing all the glassing after changing the frame took weeks.

All that to say that it is easy to understand why someone's heart may have gone feint and they decided to move the project along.

I have an S1.  I changed the frame.  I love it.  It was a LOT of work.

I just learnt on Facebook that it did sell last year, and is now being sold on by the buyer.

If you are looking for someone who can organize the import of the S1 to the UK you should contact Ian Colligan of https://www.bespokemotor.com/ (https://www.bespokemotor.com/). He is located in Boston and frequently imports Europa S1s from the US to the UK. I bought my Europa S1 from him and can highly recommend him.
