It looks like something hard was used to fill the gap between the aluminum frame and door frame. What sealant works best when putting the frame back in? Does anyone have a pic showing the meeting of the two? My cars was in pretty bad condition when I got it so I don't know what it should look like.

That should be a rubber gasket between the two.

No relationship but there is a guy in Ontario Canada that has good knowledge and a selection of seals for Europas

I have my window frames out atm and to me it didnt look like a gasket. it looked like a black sealant, similar to sikaflex but it was dried rock hard.
Im not sure what the proper sealant/ or gasket? to use is, but i would also like to know.

This is what mine seems like except it is only partially there. The PO painted the car so I wasn't sure if he did it or if it was factory.

I also have my window frames out. They were held on by two pop rivets with some sealant for waterproofing. The sealant had hardened over the years and was a pain to get out. I plan on using clear 100% silicon to reinstall the frames in addition to the two pop rivets.

Sorry for my original reply. I misread the question and thought you meant the seal between the quarter glass and the window frame.

I also have the frames out and mine were also pop riveted in place .
PPG products work great , pr1829 is a good choice for windshield and canopy’s. The PPG home page can guide you to a good choice, I also like there firewall sealants that can also be used and are easier to scrape off , and remain flexible and waterproof. Color choice is limited to gray, reddish orange, green and black , but they may have others. 2oz container is enough for both windows and is not reusable.
