Title: TCS Brake switch
Post by: Europa73 on Tuesday,July 04, 2017, 06:12:51 PM
Hi all,

Still fighting the gremlins from it standing idle for 10 years.

The hydraulic brake switch below the battery just failed - loose spade terminal.

Does anyone know what other cars this was fitted to?

And - when I replace this switch - will I need to bleed the brakes again?

I am hoping not

Many thanks,

The switch uses 3/8-24 thread. Mine just failed and I got my replacement from r.d. You might be able to get them locally, but make sure you get the right thread. Many of them use 1/8" pipe threads.

Yes, you will have to bleed your brakes again. I think the switch is in the rear circuit, but I would bleed front and back.

You will need one (1) beautiful assistant.  Have the new switch ready with its new copper sealing washer in place.  Both hands ready.  Remove the old switch with one hand and block the port with the other hand's thumb.  Now, quickly, fit the new one but only snug it up.  Have your BA press on the brakes, crack the switch back loose and then tighten it up when only clear fluid is coming out.  If you're slick, that will be it.

since the brake switch sits so close to the header I left the bad one in and installed mine in the H block where the servos used to be.  I ran an extension wire back there so I didn't have to disturb the harness.  The switch I got was from an Alpha I think.  I just went to Napa and said "do you have any inline brake switches?".  He only had one in stock, it fit!

Just bleed the brakes again.  You may push out some old air or fluid in the process.  You can't have good enough brakes.

Thanks for all the help on this one.

The beautiful assistant did a great job and the braking lights are now operational once again!

Cheers,
