If this is a 1969 car, it is an S2

From the picture it looks like an S1, under the doors has no lip, moulded seat backs on the bulkhead, push button doors, no indicator warts. Maybe it was slow to be sold/registered?

or built as a kit

Should be an S1 which I ike a lot. Could you please post its chassis number that would clarify which kind of S1 you are offering.

What is the stats on the engine gearbox ?

I have no association with this Europa, but I did come across an ad for it on Kijiji. There are a few more pictures.

I can confirm that the 1969 Europa shown above is indeed a 1967 built S1, VIN 460161. My brother bought the car and it has been shipped to Germany in the mean time. It was a pleasure to deal with the Canadian seller who acted like a gentleman. Although all negotiations where done via phone and having not seen the car in person everything went extremely well.
The S1 is in need of a full restoration. A long time previous owner started to restore the car but did not manage to finish it. Nearly all of the hard to find S1 parts are present except for the Zagato tail lights (which alreday have been sourced in Italy). Even a pair of lockable Oddie fasteners turned up in the collection of bits that came with the car.

Wow. Very nice. Can’t wait to follow the restore

is that $9500 Canadian or US
At £6800 (US$) or £5600 (CAD) - that's still quite a steal isn't it ??
-
If you add costs for transport and customs the price is ok but surely no steal. The Europa was publicly available for quite a while so obviously the demand was not too high. The thing is if you are looking for one of the very first Europas it is very difficult to find one. So we are very happy that this car has found its way to us.
-
:I-agree:
Sorry - I did not explain well - it was a "steal" if you lived in Canada.....
You don't see them this side of the pond for such prices.

Hi Dilkris,
everything fine :beerchug: And you are right that the early cars are quite rare over here and even more in the UK as they were never sold there officially. Only recently the UK Lotus community started to take notice of those very special and different Europas.

Hello Klaus, I look forward to seeing more photographs of your brother's car! 8)

Me too ;D
-
Klaus,
If you should need the correct tail panel I made a mold from my S1A of the section needed to replace the later section that was grafted on to yours.
-
Hi Chuck,
that's a very interesting offer and I will tell my brother about it. We discussed already to either take a mold from my S1 or to buy such a section from Banks in the UK.

If that VIN number (460161) is correct, then the rear portion of the car has been cut off and replaced with a later rear end (possibly from an S2). That VIN number indicates an S1 and the tail lights would indicate an S1b. So something is amiss somewhere.

I know this car and it is an S1 1966 model not a 69 as registered so parts are hard to come by
