Title: How many left
Post by: Lotsof 3146 R on Sunday,May 24, 2020, 02:18:03 PM
Just 53 lotus Europa specials registered on the UK. This compares with 12000 MG B and 4000 TR6.
I knew this was a rare beast - but not that rare.
The website is showing 136 Europa’s Registered in the UK in total - I don’t know how accurate it is
https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/lotus_europa_special.
And one is in my garage waiting for DVLA to register it, so the number should soon be 54

Although mines a Special, it says Europa Twin-Cam on the Registration document

In total 4,710 Type 74s were produced, of which 3,130 were badged "Specials".
I’ve yet to know what mine is registered as. I tried “twin cam special”
Export numbers are not clear, but for just 138 tc’s and special’s to be registered on the road in the uk seems very low to me.

If you just search for Europa it shows all variants - including the more modern SE
105 Twin Cams and Specials
22 S2's
And 138 "Europa" which could be any variant.
That's 255 in total.

I believe the models on the Registration document were used as written on the registration applications by the dealers at the time, and could possibly have been truncated by the inputter when moved to the computerised system.

Also if you click on the Special which shows 53 licensed vehicles (I believe this means taxed, including the free Historic classification which they should pretty much all be covered by), it also shows that in Q1 of 2019 there were 49 taxed and 29 SORN'd vehicles.

I agree there aren't many left whatever of these numbers you choose to use, but then they only made 9947 total production of all Europas from 1966 to 1975, compared with around 387,000 MGB roadsters and nearly 126,000 MGB GT's over their production run.

Edit May 25,2020. Corrected typo.

Very interesting topic. I have many people ask me how many Europas are still around. Most of the reference material I have seen say there were around 9,300 built. Where does the nearly 10,000 number come from? It would be interested in how many are still on the road.

Here's where the nearly 10,000 figure comes from (not specifically): http://www.lotuseuropa.org/production_figures.htm

I have 6 more in the UK undergoing restoration, and not yet registered. 2 TCS JPS black,1 TCS yellow, 2 TCS lagoon blue, and 1 TC carnival red. Add  1 TCS JPS black is registered but SORN while undergoing complete restoration (4129R).

I would really like to know how many S1 are still in existence. I would doubt that there are even 50 left in driving condition in the world.
