That's the wrong one.

I went to check mine but it's a Bosch distributor from a crossflow so not the same.  You definitely do not have to remove the points plate.

Hmm, I think you did get the right one.  I just check the Pertronix site.  Wait until a lister who's don it before chimes in.  You should not have to remove the points plate.  It should go where the original points went.

i think i can make it work i was wondering why i had no little plexiglass to adjust air gap but im not sure but i think i figured it out if you look at the picture the igniter is leaning against a little piece of teflon if i removed it the ignitor will sit flat in the back and the plate from the points will push it and hold it in place and i would have enough space for the magnet and the correct air gap

thanks jp i think you have to use the points plate to hold it in place in the picture i just placed it against the back iits not pushed all the way down im on top of the teflon but that would be where it would end up and seems to be good just would like to conferm  it might help somone in the future

The old points and condenser are removed before fitting the ignitor.

finally figured it out started first try runs smooth and bonus the tacometer works
the instructions did not help to adjust the space between the magnet and sensor i just bent the bracket in back of the sensor i used the same clip that was holding down the points and the non movable part of the points is pushing on it to eep it in place
