My Lotus Europa S2 typ54 1470 cc
« on: Monday,February 10, 2020, 11:03:48 AM »
 :newhere:
Thank you all for having me,nice to be a part if this comunity!
My name is Gabriel and im from Bucharest Romania, ive recently bought a S2 Europa witch i umported from Switzerland
The car has been bought new in 1970 and the owner drive it for 6 years
In 1976 he parked it in storage and never seen the light again untill i bought it in January of this year
Excpet a few modifications that the PO made the car was pretty much original ,a dash console was added some gauges, seatbelts ...all aded during the 6 years of use ..
The engine however is seisez, this being the 1470 cc Renault engine it turned out is not a very easy job traking parts expacialy pistons!
I'm no mechanic I just have a passion for old cars ,so my knowledge is very limited!as Switzerland is not in the UE I ended up paying import taxes with brought the cars price pretty high with transport and everything on top.. so I hope in the end it will be worth it and I've made a good purchase!
Tomorow I'm taking the car to a friends garage and he will take out the engine and il find out what's inside!
I'm hoping to be able to save the pistons and get as much information on this forum
Thanks again for having me

 :Welcome: Luciano!!!

That's a pretty S2! JB is certainly not the only one here who wants to see more pictures of your new baby!

There are several ways of resizing your pictures. Some people prefer this method: http://www.lotuseuropa.org/LotusForum/index.php?topic=1379.0

I seem to be the only one using this method (assuming you're using a recent Windows OS) but you might like it!:
1. display the picture on the screen
2. run a program called the "snipping tool." It allows you to save an area of your screen image to a file.
3. in the snipping tool menu, choose "New." The screen will lighten and a cross hair cursor will come up.
4. with the cross hair cursor choose the portion of the picture (or all if you prefer) you want to post.
5. click disk icon to save the chosen part of the screen to a file.
6. post the new file

It's very easy if my description wasn't helpful, here's a video explaining it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCjI0f1yeVY&feature=youtu.be

Great to have you here and don't be shy with your pictures and plans for your car!

So far I have not made any progress other than researching  and reading the forums
Tomorrow the car will be taking to the service shop and engine will be taking off for rebuild ,and I will know what I'm facing regarding the engine,I hope I can save the pistons
My initial plans was to do a body on restoration but I'm not sure how that will actually work
I have all the brakes, bushings, center console, plastic trunk(was missing) I want to keep the roof console as the roof material looks good but has a hole where the console is so cant remove it
I'm also thinking of reapplying the stripes as I like it looks with the.

Thanks
Owner only had it on the road for 6 years so it should be a pretty solid base to start with
Chassis does not have rust and the car is complete

Had a look at the album, sweet!

Have you considered leaving the paint alone?  It looks pretty good actually.

 :Welcome: Luco!

Beautiful car! Looks like everything rubber needs replacement, but otherwise a great survivor. I agree with JB that the paint and stripe work looks good as is. Congrats on a great Europa!

Thank you all for a kind welcome
The car has just went in to the shop today!
All rubbers have been ordered with a lot of other parts!
The paint has some bad areas and the fiber glass has "spider web"cracks, however the new paint will be the same and the stripes will be reapplied
