How about an original owner list
« on: Sunday,December 27, 2020, 09:01:12 AM »
Who else besides me bought their car new and still owns it.
Oh yeah...does it run? (Mine did last summer, but it has what I hope is a minor issue now. Garage too cold to deal it now. Will be good to go by end of April no matter what)

I have heard about some other original owners. It's been a while so I don't remember where or how many. It might have been on the yahho group (now groupsio group). I'm thinking it was two because I was surprised at how many there were - and that would have surprised me. Maybe you were one of them!

Well, it could very well have been that the prior discussion was on the yahoo group and we were the only participants!

I've had my S2 from new, though it had been sitting on the dealer's lot for the better part of a year. It retains its original engine and transmission with no modifications. The engine has been out a couple of times but the head has never been off and the Solex carb has never been off its manifold. The car still works well and has never stranded me by the roadside. I've generally noted the dates of repairs and parts replacements in my workshop manual, which makes it easy to find out what the DPO did  8).

Well, that's three of us then!

It's not unusual for a car to spend a year or even more at a dealer. I got mine when they were trying to get rid of such cars. I bought mine in '75 but it was built in June '73 so it could have sat at the dealer/distributor for about a year and a half. The paint looked like it had (and every day was hot and sunny! - part of the reason for my reduced price).

S2. You win the longest ownership award!
Interesting. I had to wait several months for a car to be delivered from England.
Well....3 of us. Lotus owners to the end? I have to say that my car looks way better than I do given the years!

I had bought mine new in '74, but sold to a "friend" in '85 when our second child arrived. It was sold with the condition that he contact me if he ever wanted to sell it. Unfortunately, that did not happen. But I did get another one, only 181 serial numbers older.
