:Welcome: , Bobbie! One of our members used a Odyssey PC925 in his S1 but I'm not sure if the S1 and S2 have a similar battery space.

Mazda Miata batteries are pretty light and have 320-350 CCA. More than enough for a Europa. I don't know of a Car style battery smaller. There are lighter options though  The Deka ETX 16 and 30 have good CCA,  size, and are light. You can order auto style battery posts on Ebay for cheap.

I run the Odyssey PC925, probably a bit overkill for a stock S2 but I'm going to be running ac in my S1 and want a bit of reserve capacity.  Lots of people also use the Odyssey PC680.  It's very small but don't let its CCA rating fool you, it puts out a lot of current, just not for very long.

So the first question for yourself is: stock location or are you relocating it?

I installed the PC680 in my S2 but soon found that it didn't have much cranking capacity. If the S2 didn't start within five or so start attempts, it crapped out and I had to put it on a charger. I then upgraded to a PC 925 and had no issues with the number of reasonable starts since then.

I used the same PC680 on my TCS and found that I could crank the TCS many more times before the battery went flat than the S2. The PC680 works great on the TCS with the gear reduction starter motor.

I'll say, the twin cam motor spun up like a turbine with the gear reduction starter.

How is your current battery mounted? I don't have any pictures to see how the battery was mounted from the factory. From what I can deduce from the remnants of my stock mounting system the original battery was jammed up tight against the front of the inside wheel well and secured by one threaded bobbin in the FG. Subsequent replacement batteries had to some how deal with the original setup, some good, some bad.
