Post by: Europa73 on Thursday,June 22, 2017, 05:36:52 AM
I put the clocks back in yesterday.

tested the
indicators
hazards
lights
main beam

Had the following on the lights on the dash (external lights word as they should)

on the dashboard lights
Left and right indicator work
when I put on main beam the left indicator lights up
when I put on the hazards on the beam lights up

any thoughts?

Cheers

Bad ground(s).

Sounds to me like you have a short between the headlight switch and the left turn indicator (on the bottom, right?). I'm assuming when you turn your emergency flashers on, the high beam indicator lights up and stays on in which case it sounds like a short between the hazard switch and the high beams indicator light. The hazard flasher is somewhat near the headlight switch so I'd start my search in that area and toward the instrument binnacle.

Wouldn't bad grounds be the reason for something not working at all rather than improperly?

Usually there is a separate power source to each electrical item/circuit but most items/circuits share a common ground.  If there is a ground circuit issue then whatever is being powered will "leak" power to other items/circuits through their common ground connection.  Thus you turn on x and y lights up.

It will cost the earth to fix that problem.

Similar issue I had on reassembly...added individual ground gangs for front and rear side marker lamps and blinkers.

Thanks all for the input.

I found the problem.

A loose earth hiding behind the clocks - once attached all lights returned back to normal operation.
