You might get more interest with more pics. The white body looks nice in the one pic. If I didn't have a Europa. I would probably be calling.

The most common place for an oil leak on this engine is the valve cover.  The oil makes its way down and can easily look ill it is leaking from somewhere else.  Carefully feel around the cover with a dry finger.  If it becomes oily, you've found your problem.

Garage / Brake Master Question
« Last post by Bryan Boyle on Wednesday,April 24, 2024, 07:13:01 AM »
As you all know...been working on 3291R for a couple years...and I think it may be time to address the existing master cylinder issue...it slowly weeps fluid out (I think, through the rear seal...but...and, while I can bleed it to a solid pedal that lasts for a few months, obviously it's not a case of 'just keep doing it and it will get better.")

So...I've collected a bunch of candidate MCs:

1. OEM Toyota F10 pickup
2. TRW Triumph Spit slope top .70
3. Original TCS cylinder (slope top)
4. From my parts stash of breaking up 4 S2s...a couple of S2 masters in serious need of rebuild, with a spare new, in the box, S2 reservoir.

Now, having removed the boosters,  I've a non-boosted brake system.  I'm thinking that (assuming I will re-plumb and remove the excess bundy going to the back then returning to the front...) the most satisfactory results may be found by sending the S2 MCs out to Apple and resleeving/rebuilding to S2 spec (stepped bore, etc).  However, I'm wondering if there is enough clearance to use the large reservoir (as on the S2), with its increased capacity, in place of the slope top original TC style without having to do fiberglass surgery.

The advantages to using the Lotus-spec MCs is that

1. There would be no need to do bundy splicing to account for the feed port location on the master...and if I can fit the larger reservoir without carving fiberglass...well, that would be a plus too (not that I'm against it in the goal of increasing the capacity....),

2. Removing the out-and-back tubing for the front calipers would simplify and remove multiple splices to account for the booster and PDWV removal, and

3. The bores are close enough by using the S2, (accounting for the different size of the rear brake cylinders) for the car's dynamics (as far as I can tell).

Open to thoughts.

Hi BDA and all

I think matt black might work for me.

By the way, your windscreen surround, I would like to order some of the stuff you used (https://www.sportwing.com/Extruded-Moldings-Trim/AB10014-S-All-Brite-Molding) but sadly they will not ship internationally. I have some family in the US I might try to get them to take delivery and ship some to me.

Does anyone know if this stuff is available in the UK?

Are the corner pieces available? I can see Banks have the top ones.

Thanks

Berni

So that was two steps hopefully in a forward direction. However, the post about Federal tail lights made me realise that my UK car has Federal light clusters  ::) so one step back.

I can vaguely remember at one point when parts supply was poor from Lotus and fading fast, the Federal light lenses were being sold as a cheaper alternative to the UK spec ones. So a previous owner may have decided to refresh the car with those. Or, just as likely, Lotus ran out of UK spec lenses and shoved in what they had on the shelf when the car was made !

Hello Berni,

the front ride height is as it was when I bought it, so the PO is responsible for that. I can't remember what dampers it has in the front but they have adjustable perches.

When I powder-coated and restored the front A-arms some years ago, I just cleaned the springs and dampers before reassembly.
The rears on the other hand, I've replaced with new dampers and springs from SJS, the old ones were sagging and not adjustable.

Things are looking good!  :beerchug:

I believe bogging is generally a sign of a rich mixture. Try turning in the idle mixture screws a quarter of a turn each until it goes away.

I’m a little disappointed with still not driving her after replacing the choke cable and finding my mistakes on the the throttle cable. The new radiator cap fixed the problem with leaking. The oil origin leak still eludes me . Finding clean oil is difficult with the engine off after the puddle is found.
The carb seems to bog a little coming off idle. The pedal has a slight hang up returning to idle also.
My console is now installed but I will loosen it to check the run.
Then I need to re tighten the cam belt and get rid of a slight wobble . The belt adjustment is on a learning process. Hiding the rest of the harness is next !
Then getting the gearbox in first was grinding as was the rest.  I just want to scream …

FS / WTB: Cars and Rollers / FS 1972 Europa S2 with Twin Cam Big Valve
« Last post by mgccrx on Tuesday,April 23, 2024, 05:53:34 PM »
I recently acquired a 1972 Europa with a Twin Cam big valve transplant motor, with 4-speed transmission. The car has same family ownership records dating back to 1976. 21,000 miles on the car, 30 miles on the fresh engine rebuild. It's been sitting 30-years, but this thing is a clean and easy project. I've had to come to the realization that I'm just too big for this car, so I'm not going to pursue a restoration.

I'll be cleaning the car up and getting the engine running this week and will post more pictures. Located in Cleveland, Ohio. I can accommodate international shipping.

It's available, let me know if interested. Clean title in my name. $16,500 obo

Happy to assist with international shipping.
