Title: 185s on all wheels?
Post by: TurboFource on Friday,July 03, 2020, 05:59:34 AM
Can you put 185s on all four wheels of a Twin Cam so you can rotate the tires? Or will they rub in the front? Or is there no need to do so?

The TC/S is heavier at the rear and the tire sizes were larger at the rear to improve the handling.

I think I read that they rub/break the arches at the front if you fit 185's to the front.

They might rub but I doubt it would break any body work.

I thought I read on here of someone where it cracked the arch with full lock on. It does specifically state that you should not fit the wheels fitted with 185's to the front in the handbook/ manual.

185/70's rub on the front on my TC, 185/60's don't.

I used 185/60 x 13 on my S2 with not problems, they rubbed the front arch at the rear of the wheel by your feet but that was because I altered the lock stop on the rack as it was a racecar & moving in the paddock is always a problem

I run 185/60-13 Hoosiers all around on my special.  At full lock and hard cornering the fronts barely touch on the inner wheel wells.  Not enough to feel or mark the tires, though enough to take 3/8" stripe of paint off the inner wheel wells.

I run 185/60 tires on the front and 205/60 tread on the rear. No rubbing. The 60 series tires have a smaller diameter which certainly helps clearance.  I also have lower springs on the front.

It also depends on the wheel offset. 185/60 should not be a problem as mentioned above.

Anyone apart from Arizona try 185/70 on the fronts? Would like to run CR6ZZ's.

Funny you should mention that. What happened was the PO apparently decided to rotate the tires at some point and I took possession with 185's on the front and 175's on the rear!

I had 185 70s on my car to start, they rubbed on the toe board of the front inner arch at full lock, and the outer arch lips but that issue was most likely an offset problem.  185/60's Federals fit just fine.  But, I wish I could have found some 185/70 Federals for the rear.
