Title: Electric Windows
Post by: 1973JPS on Monday,September 24, 2018, 03:03:14 AM
Hi Guys I've started to restore our 1973 Special so expect a lot of questions over the next few years.... ;D
I've just removed the doors and want to strip them down for painting but how do I get the windows down??
Thanks in advance
Richard

What are you trying to do? Do you want to remove the frames for painting, do you need to renew the runners and brush seals. If you have the doors off already then you should be able to just unbolt the motor and remove it (I've only done it with the motor in the up position so am not certain you can get the motor out, but worth a try). that will allow the glass to drop. Then drill out the rivets that holed the flame in. The manual shows you how, plus there has been previous posts on doing this

When I took my doors apart I could not get the motors out with the winder in the up position. I used a 6amp battery charger and bumped it to the middle position and out it came.

I have taken 14 motors out in the up position.

Just undo the 4 x 7/16" bolts, pull the wiring out of the bottom of the motor, and carefully pull the wheel out of the metal channel, and then feed the lever through the large hole.

It is a bit fiddly, but it definitely comes out in the up position.

I searched for a good hour for this subject but couldn't find it.....I'm wanting to remove everything for painting and fixing broken crossbars and just a general tidy up
