BAM!!!  Sold in one day.  The 46's don't last long.

That was an interesting car Mike, I haven't seen an S1 in years over here. Although mine's a TC I've always liked the early styling, it always looked a purer design, a smooth front panel without the indicators there.

I agree.   Even though I am the current keeper of a TC, I am thinking how neat the 46 looks.

I also agree. I really love my Special, but it is hard to deny the purity of the early S1. I have said in the past that if I were to ever get another Europa, it would be one of these. I would like to know more about how he removed and reinstalled the body.

Trevor,
there was a short conversation on Europa Yahoo Groups on that very subject on body removal of the early cars.  A couple of the guys had done it.  There was one  fellow asking the others if he should buy the one that was offered to him.  Yes, the early Europas are such a sweet design.

I am just so taken by a 47GT.......can't imagine the fun factor.  Can't imagine the price.

Thanks Mike, I'll check that out. Not that I'm in a position to pick up a second Europa right now, but sometimes a fellow finds himself in the right place at the right time when a deal is offered. Sometimes these things are stupid cheap, but if I felt the frame had rust (a very cheap one probably will) I would might turn it down thinking that frame replacement was not possible.

Trevor,

I would never turn down a 46 fixed window, rust or no rust.  I think it just boils down to your time and desire.

Like an old school shop teacher told me, "a man put it together, no reason a man can't take it apart".

I am stuck on several things.  Like, and I continue to bore people with this, "in the states, who fixes Renault transmissions and rebuilds Renault engines (to include parts)".
I notice the trans issue is rarely, if ever, addressed.  Maybe if it isn't said out loud, nothing bad will happen.

Spencers Motorsport fixes/rebuilds Renault transmissions for Lotus cars.  In fact Barry Spencer races a Europa (with 350hp+ turbo charged rotary engine).  Though the renault transmission is pretty easy to take apart, clean up and put new seals in yourself.

I was always afraid to touch a transmission until I had to for my Europa and it was  one of the easier things I've done on the car (well by no means the hardest).  I don't know if Barry has a source for new synchros and or gears, but he might.  Quaife has straight cut racing gears you can buy for it but to date there aren't enough us who are willing to pay for it to make an order big enough for Quaife to make them.

I forgot to say that Spencer's shop is in Oakland CA.  I think if you google it, you'll find his website.  He's also occasionally on the yahoo forum.
