What would be a reasonable price to pay
for a 336 in average condition
-
Remember there are three major differences between 336s out there:
- 336 used in Renault 16: Renault bell housing, 3.7x:1 and ring gear turns the other way.
- 336 used in Europa S1 and S2: Renault bell housing, 3.56:1 and ring gear turns the right way.
- 336 used in early Europa TC: Lotus/Ford bell housing, 3.56:1 and ring gear turns the right way.
Pricing is a matter of luck and availability. $25 at a scrappers for an R16 unit to $1K+. Hopefully you can find what you are looking for in the $200 range.

Ok thanks Jb its from Renault engine europa not sure what engine size or year a guy was looking for an engine and was offered a tranny an adapter plate clutch headers everything to put an 4age to a europa plus a 341 block for 500$ but the guy wanted only the block so i could get all exept the block
For the same price Im more interested in the tranny as a spare that’s why i was wondering if it was a decent price

You are looking for another 336 just as a spare? They are very robust as long as you keep them full of oil and the half shafts shimmed properly. That said, $500 for everything to install a $AGE engine into a Europa is a very good price. You could keep the 336, flip all the AGE stuff and come out money ahead.

thank you for your advice i just thought that having a few spare parts never hurts i just wanted to make sure i wasn’t overpaying and since i have two Renault engine i was thinking of prepping the tranny and putting it on my crossflow so its ready to drop in
