Title: 1970 front end bushings
Post by: RonPNW on Wednesday,August 30, 2023, 08:24:14 PM
Just took apart and cleaned the front end of my well maintained 1970 S2.
I had expected to need to replace all the bushings but they all look perfect, not loose, no signs of wear centered in the bore. Seems amazing for 50 year old rubber. The same is true of the trunions. Of course the upper ball joints, tie rod ends and steering arm boots are toast.

Is there any reason to replace the seemingly perfectly good bushings?

Thanx
Ron

If the rubber is still supple and shows no sign of cracking, they are fine.

You could try holding the inner bush in a vise and then apply twisting force with the arm.  Still no cracking showing and the arm returns to the same position?  All good.
