Post by: surfguitar58 on Sunday,October 04, 2020, 01:44:52 PM
Question: What mid-1960s car is mid-engined, has a beam chassis, fiberglass body, formula car inspired suspension, a Lotus twin-cam engine, and sells for about 10X what a perfectly sorted Europa goes for?

Ahh, a DeTomaso Vallelunga! Beautiful car and rare car.  There is a reason why all photos of one are taken from the front. The rear screen is an odd shape and makes them look bloated at the tail.  In the same way that the only Bristol 407 Zagato is pictured from the front.  The first few were aluminum bodied by Ghia then the rest Fibreglass. The chassis was not as well designed as Lotus ones. I think they suffered from twisting and then cracking. I see that it has a Twink in it rather than the original Kent. That would make the chassis twisting even worse. Still, I don’t think the prospective buyer will race it or, dare I say it, drive it. It’ll probably end up as a hangar queen. One was exhibited recently at MoMA as an example of good design.
