Title: Machine shop capable of boring Renault cylinders?
Post by: Richard48Y on Friday,July 29, 2022, 02:19:04 PM
You might expect this to be simple but it no longer is.
Auto machine shops are closing at an alarming rate as the guys who "know how" are retiring and cannot find anyone to take over.
When I was in HS shops to do this were all over the place, now here I am having to ask for a recommendation.
Hopefully somewhere on the West coast, NV even better.

Unfortunately most people don't rebuild anything anymore and shops are closing.... :(

Maybe you can find a race engine builder who is familiar with what you need or knows where to ask. You might call Ken at Dave Bean. He may know someone in your area or at least not TOO far away.

Motorcycle shops bore liners all the time.  Worthwhile making up a torque plate though.

The issue I keep running into is that no one has the correct fixtures.
I have read that the cylinders should NOT be bored in the block.
Should not have to pay extra to buy and import cylinders for 78mm when my 77mm have little wear.
Local bike shops send their work out, and nearly everything is an in-line mono-block.
