Title: Steering column mounting
Post by: RafM on Wednesday,March 24, 2021, 04:36:01 AM
Hi, I'm in the middle of rebuilding a TC which can as a partly restored project. Would anyone have photos of the steering column mounting bracket? not the 2 piece clamp that holds the column but the actual bracket that the clamp attaches to. I think it's connected behind the crash pads that run along the lower dash board, thanks, Raf.

 :Welcome:

Think that the parts you are after are circled in red in the picture, number 15 attaches to the rear bottom edge of the dash (folded steel) and the two piece clamp bolts go through it to hold the column up.

Thanks, I looked at this already but find it hard to visualise. Does the column pass through the hole in piece number 16? Sometimes a photo says a thousand words although it's a tough place to get a good picture.

Yes, that’s the piece that bolts on to the bottom of the dashboard where the padded trim is bolted.

There is a comprehensive build thread by Certified Lotus, there are many good quality photos which may help you figure things out.
I have found a pic on page 68 of his thread (near the top) that shows the main dash bracket (15) and you can just about make out part 16 in the same pic and the picture below that.

Hopefully this link will work and save you having to search too much

Thanks, I've looked at quite a few set of photos, this is the best picture I've seen. I'm going to make my own bracket and this is pretty similar to what I had decided to do.
