Your probably correct Gavin, dimming down the full illuminating ring would be the best solution than having it glaring at you or having a yellow glow. I”lol look into it today and see if I can break into it. It’s a mechanical oil pressure btw.
I didn’t want another delay but there is no sense putting everything back in and having regrets later. 🥱🥱👍👍

I keep coming back to wondering if there is a market for a well designed and durable dual Weber air cleaner assembly using a readily available paper filter.
Chris Neils (Lotus independant specialist) offered one in the 80s/90s which came as a folded metal back plate with a flat filter clamped in place. This did away with the OEM front cover and trunking to the separate air filter canister. I had one (it's probably still on the shelf somewhere) because when I bought the Elan it was missing the cover/trunking and running on open weber trumpets with no filtration.

It's a poor shot, but you can get the idea from this old photo taken during a respray...

The only way that hole can wear is if the lower link bolt is not tightened properly and it is actually loose allowing movement.  I've never seen one worn there myself.
^^^ Ditto
From the description of wear, loose at either end and tighter in the centre, that sounds very much like a loose bolt. It should never move or rotate, it's a rock solid connection when torqued properly. I'm slightly surprised you can't get it to work even with the wear as described, I would have thought the crush tubes in the damper & link plus two washers either side of the carrier would tighten up into a solid connection. There must be a lot of wear if it still moves after tightening up and that sounds like an insert is required. Or, if it's not worn centrally, a J prep with some weld at either side and ream the hole back to size ?

The individual K&N units have gotten expensive and are just not the same quality they were.
They also do not have any really good provision for engine venting.
I am thinking of a single unit to cover both Webers, and maybe some provision for a cold air duct as well.
Renault and Ford engines would require different base plates, and Renault might not all be the same due to different brands of intake manifolds.
I do hope to be able to use the same top cover and filter for all variations.
In any case I intend to do a prototype for my own use.

Found out there are a couple of ways to handle the two-tone PP.
One requires masking, the other does not.
Masking does require a special tape.
My local PP guy had to move his shop and is now waiting on permits to resume business.
I hope to speak with him on Monday but I know he is WAYYYYYY backed up with work.
Still considering a change to Gold, I think Gold wheels would really stand out.

Well spotted on the tach. That's a 7K MGB unit. I have the same in my car - but still have the original 8K TCS unit that needs rebuilding. Also, the pin striping is not just custom, most of it is missing. May have something to do with all the overspray on the underside of the frunk and engine lid. Even though it's represented that it's still finished in the original factory red. And I'm not sure I've seen the extra plastic coolant expansion tank next to the OE swirl pot.

But still, a nice looking survivor - just too bad whoever wrote the ad glosses over so much. Or maybe has no idea?

Hmmm . . I wonder if the brightness differences couldn't be altered by painting part of the interior of the gauge either black or silver depending on which direction you want to go.

That way, they could all be a bit too dark which is closer to standard.  ;D

After removing my LED instrument lights for just being to dainty and a mismatch in intensity in my gauges I went back to the OEM bayonet sockets .  Then afterwards fighting ground connections, I’m still not happy with the mismatch in two new gauges, the amp meter which matches and the oil  pressure which is different than the rest by having illumination around the entire gauge.
I guess I’ll have to live with it but while the facia is out I thought I could swap different bulbs but to no avail.  I thought about reclocking the temp and fuel so that the socket sat on top of the gauge where the  illumination bleds  from behind legend.

The car show was a success. Nine Lotus (the company has decreed that the plural of "Lotus" is "Lotus") there! Four of the were brand new Emiras. More Emiras than I've ever seen in one place!

D'man would have liked the Elan +2 there!

There were a lot of other cars there, of course, including some very pretty Austin Healey 3000s, MG As, MG TCs and MG TFs, Mini Coopers, a smattering of Jaguars and Aston Martins but I figured the Lotus contingent was of the most interest to us here.

Davies Craig make an old school fan controller with adjustable cut in point. I believe this is the type Brian is referring to.

There's also these in-line otter switch adaptors, too.
Thanks Gavin - looks like I have decisions to make on the rebuild - positive ones though!  This site is a fantastic repository of knowledge - there's so much I've found out using the search bar, but I really appreciate the responses from people who've been and done this before
