Happy Boxing Day to our Brit friends!!

Happy Boxing Day to all our Brit (and others who celebrate it - in investigating it, I found several other countries celebrate it too) Europa-loving friends!

I know this will sound strange, but these days Boxing Day seems almost a non-event to me. (or perhaps it's just me getting old ?)

Living in the "sticks" very little happens, the village shop is closed and the pub deserted. No buses or traffic anywhere.

Around 9:00am there was the sounds of someone taking pot shots at birds, presumably on a Boxing Day shooting party but as it was cold and damp, that didn't last long. We took the dog out shortly after, met up on a field with our neighbour doing the same thing but otherwise didn't see a soul. Went out on my bike later on and the roads were dead, everyone must be staying home and shopping for internet bargains  :)

What's it like in other countries that have this holiday then ?

Not much happens in Canada except shopping which I avoid. They used to have one day Boxing Day sales but now it seems to be Boxing Month sales so people can spend even more money they don't have. Not much worth buying anyway.

I'm working on my Europa today and having a beer with the neighbour.

Don't forget to seal the sides and back!

I just wanted to get that in before BDA does :)

70, your dash looks really nice, it looks like my standby dash, only because I went with the original.  I left out the radio hole also and thinking about a  WiFi backup camera connected to IPhone.  Are you planning anything? Labeling items?

I do have the labeling from RDent. I'm actually making two dashes at this point. One for the original instruments and one modified. I don't want a radio so I'm thinking of going hi-tech. GPS- Back-up camera, USB ports etc. I didn't buy my Europa as an investment but want to be able to switch back to original if anyone cares in the future. I'm also going with leather for the upholstery.

It's a tough call. My S2 at this point is not 100% original but close. But I didn't buy it as an investment.

Well said sir, I'm 100% behind that sentiment. I've no problem with folks buying cars as investments or being hyper critical in doing an exact 1960s restoration,  but the reality with our cars (or any cars produced in their 1000's)  is that they're unlikely to be big money spinners.

So get the car how you want it to be - some folks will love it, others not so much but at the end it's your car and you're paying for it.  Let's face it, whatever you do it will be reversible should the next owner wish it and the big deal is that you enjoy your hobby.

I think that's one of the big pluses from this forum in that modifications/upgrades, call it whatever you want to but they are taken on merit and not criticised because "it's not original".  That's what makes logging in and seeing what you other folks are doing so interesting.

Brian

ps - Boxing Day now over and I'm still getting emails this morning from Costco about "Boxing Day Deals"......   :)

Well, for as long as I can remember Boxing Day has always been my dad’s birthday! Thankfully he’s still around to celebrate it (a sprightly 88 this year).  Since moving to Ireland I have to stop myself from calling it Boxing Day.  It’s St Stephen’s day here.
