Nice 1972 Europa on BringATrailer
« on: Saturday,December 07, 2019, 06:05:51 PM »
Looks a bit like Certified's but not as nice. On the plus side, it has a 5-speed and a Weber head but it's been a driver so it's not pristine. I'm interested to see what it brings!

Edit: I forgot to mention the biggest negative - the ashtray had been broken and repaired!

Dang, most complete set of photos I've seen for any car offered for sale, warts and all. Overall a very nice car.

A very ingenious fresh air intake system. I don't remember if air flow from the rear deck vents are in or out. Normally the twinks takes hot engine air in from the air filter attached to the rear of the luggage box.

The air goes from the engine up through the vents. I'm not sure that the inlet comes up to a vent but even if it does, I wonder if it might not be as effective as other cool air systems.

He also describes a read stub axle mod he claims is very effective. Part of it seems to be to somehow increase the size of the threaded end to one inch? I'm curious about how he does that.

All in all, it's a very nice car, though. I hope he gets a good price!

all that work, effort and ownership over the years....only to be ignored the last two years sitting and deteriorating.    if only he tidied up the loose ends (windshield wipers fixed, wheel center caps, and the other items not working, etc.) to make it top notch.

The seller seems to be a real Europa fan. He says that he owns three Europa S1s which is reflected in his nick '46lotus'. I'd love to know more about those cars or to see some pictures of them. I hoped he may be on this forum but it seems not to be the case.

EDIT: He seems to be on this board using the same nick '46lotus'. Would be great if he could post some details about his S1s.

Bidding is over and the winning bid was $22,500. Not bad but I was hoping for more. Of course the seller was surely hoping more than I! The windshield wipers were inoperative so that could have been a negative but it has a Weber head which is nice.

A recent bid was won for $22,000. There were lots of cracks in the paint (I think I saw at least a crack or so in the 'glass) as well as some interior trim distress. It has a Stromberg head. Comparing the two, I'd much prefer one that just sold.

I think the buyer got a great deal!

I really thought (more hoping) it would get close to $30K.  The buyer got a good deal and a nice Europa.

I thought it would go for a fair amount more, too. I wouldn't say it was stolen, but I think the buyer got a much better deal!

I should have included links for the two cars I was talking about.

Here's the one that just sold for $22,500: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-lotus-europa-twin-cam-7/

Here's the one I compared it to that went for $22,000: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1974-lotus-europa-twin-cam-4/
