Cross reference list of parts and their original source car
« on: Saturday,August 17, 2013, 03:03:37 PM »
I am busy restoring my special and hard at work at the moment sorting out the bodywork ( I will post some pictures of current state). But what I am interested in at the moment is trying to source all the parts I need for when I start the rebuild.
My question. Is there a list somewhere of the orginal source cars for europa parts as it would come in very useful at the moment.

Thanks

Dave

Here is the cross reference from the Golden Gate Club.

Hi Dave,

The Golden Gate list which Joe has posted is the most comprehensive I've seen in terms of the manufacturer's part references and sometimes the original donor car. The trouble these days is that a lot of those donor cars aren't around, or if they are they are now classics in their own right and no longer a cheap source for parts.

Like most owners I've got a well thumbed book where I've noted parts when someone's told me or I've stumbled across something at autojumbles, so if there's anything in particular it would be wort a post to see if anyone knows of an alternative source.  But since Ebay has grown in prominence, there's not much chance of finding that pair of door handles as NOS for a fiver at an autojumble I'm afraid. (Although I did pick up a brand new gear lever gaiter for £2+postage on Ebay last year - it was a Rover part IIRC)

If it's a case of "what's missing" that's the problem, then of course there's the Lotus parts manual (pdf format) which is out there, plus the main suppliers such as SJS, Banks Europa, RD Enterprises, etc, who usually manage to come up with most things between them and often have pictures on their websites so you can see exactly what you're getting.

Thanks guys, a useful start. I have quite a few of the interior parts missing and all the instruments as well as trying to replace some of the corroded parts.  And yes the donor cars are all rare as well but there good sources of part for triumphs as well as hounding things down at autojumbles.  I have got a copy of the parts books as well as the manual.
Things like the door glass electic motors are proving quite tricky. I have given myself till the end on next year for the build so I have a bit of time

On Jerry's website there's a Parts-X-reference section, and it contains quite a lot of the parts and they're linked with all the parts diagrams.

http://www.lotus-europa.com/partsxref.html

I can also give you a heads up that some parts businesses who sell a variety of classic car parts don't always have the correct references because at some point in time someone at a wholesaler made a mistake and that mistake has been copied time and time again. So it's always a good idea that you double check the references on Jerry's website (X-reference or knowledgebase).

Kind regards,

Serge
