Title: WTB: Left Side Engine Mount (74E0481)
Post by: Bryan Boyle on Wednesday,July 27, 2022, 12:26:10 PM
Found, on examination this morning, that my left hand side engine block to rubber mount arm was toast; anyone have a spare useable one, I'd be an interested party.

Thanks in advance (I could probably repair mine, but thought I'd ask first.)

Check with Ted Taylor Classic cars under chassis parts. Saw a pair while perusing his inventory.

Looking for the part that attaches the block to that part that Ted has displayed that bolts to the block, then to the rubber mount.

Must have misread the description. Is yours cracked along the part that bolts to the rubber engine mount? Mine cracked at that spot and I managed to get it welded.

Exactly where it cracked, Joji.  Trying to find a welder that will do a small piece like this is almost as hard as finding an old-school machine shop that does block decking...they are getting few and far between.

both of mine have cracked there over the years. I just welded them back together....no further issues

This issue dates way back on TC/TCS Europas. It is worse if you have a higher output engine. When I did my upgrade back around 1985, I was aware of it, and took preemptive steps by welding an additional thick plate on the back side that goes from tip end, across the bend, and partially in towards the engine side on both of mine. Decades later, I've never had any issues running close to 200hp. If you want to copy what I did, see the attached fresh photo form an hour ago of my left hand one. (Note: the small image on my computer appears to be rotated to the right 90°, but if I click on it to enlarge, it is right side up)

This is an issue I did not know about.....I guess I need to upgrade them due to the turbo...
Project scope keeps inceasing... The more I do the more I find I need to do....  ???

If your engine is out, this is definitely THE time to do it. Not all that expensive or complicated to add an additional plate around the bend area, which is a weak spot due to no supporting cross plate top and bottom at that point which taper out right at the bend, the fact there is a bend. I guess it looked good on paper, so to speak, but strengthening them at the inside of the bends is a veritable ounce of prevention. Mine remain rock solid after roughly 35 years. Here's as slightly different angle and closer in photo.
