Title: Quick Q: float setting height on Stromberg
Post by: Bryan Boyle on Wednesday,April 20, 2022, 09:33:08 AM
Have a quick Q: I set my floats for 11/16" from flange to deepest part of the float (upside down on the bench), but thinking that these aren't level on this manifold, but at a slight angle...so...wondering if anyone has notes (since the supplement has zero in-depth info re the carbs other than using an A refresh kit at 12K miles and a  B refresh at 24K miles...) on what the correct setting should be, with the body upside down, the floats compressing the valve naturally (ie just the weight of the floats closing the valve) or is 11/16" the right value to use?

and thackerys are set for 70 thou between the coil.  carbs move very slightly; checked whilst running by shooting ether at the manifold junction, and the engine did not change rhythm...so, I know the viton o-rings and seal at the secondary throttle manifold is air tight (as are the throttle shaft seals...did the same thing...no change in engine rpm or tone...)

Full disclosure, to get to that number, I did have to slightly bend the tab towards the valve to raise the float up to that value.  Should I just have left things alone?

TIA from a stromberg/tc noob.

Bryan, I've never seen a discussion of that for the Strombergs. Lots of discussion for Weber float level. Maybe a question for Joe Curto? Please tell us what you discover.

will do.  On the list (which keeps getting longer...the more I do...) of things to investigate.

I' have them at 11/16ths...the suggestion from Joe was to lower it (upside down, which raises the level) to 5/8 (only a 1/16 difference).  That tracks with some things I've found through searching through the web.
