Title: S1 Door Striker
Post by: My S1 on Saturday,February 24, 2024, 07:24:50 AM
I began to refresh my 1967 door strikers but realized that while both are badly bent, cracked and missing parts that the left one is beyond help.  Here are my questions for you experts;

1.  Is anyone making identical reproductions of them?
2.  Does anyone have a N.O.S. set or a set in better shape than mine that you would be willing to part with?
3.  What vehicle were they originally sourced from?

Thank you all.

All the door hardware of the S1 is taken from the Renault 16. Maybe one of the French members may help to source a replacement set.

Renault 16 Shop NL has striker plates, but they're plastic. There was a thread on here about metal ones and how hard they are to find.

Watch French ebay.  They turn up now and then.

After much searching, I have acquired a decent set of R16 door strikers from the Renault 16 Shop in Netherlands.  They are fairly solid with a some deformation contact wear so I would like to restore them.  Media blasting and high polish are out of the question but I was thnking about polishing them then soaking them in some sort of mild acid to get that dark grey factory finish back.  Are there any chimists amongst us or someone who has done a "natural" restoation of the strikers who could lend some advice?

I would have thought soda blasting would be ideal for those. I've had loads of aluminium parts soda blasted and the come up like new.
