5 speed gear linkage rear UJ
« on: Saturday,December 23, 2023, 02:43:55 AM »
I want to replace the rear universal joint on the gear linkage on the 5 speed transmission on my special. The one that engages with the gearbox selector shaft.  Does anyone know the size of this joint. I’d rather replace the  joint that replace the shaft as I have adapted the end to fit the shaft better.

Good luck with that. I have never seen any UJ available like that to replace it. I think it must have been a Lotus made special.

I stand to be corrected, and would love to know where they can be found.

Search this site.  There was a chap offering replacement u-joints kits a few years back.  Got the impression they were adapted from (modestly) readily available parts.

Thirty years ago, when I replaced that joint on my TCS, I got a replacement from one of the usual suppliers. So they were available at some point. But that was long ago.

Cheers BDA that’s a good find. I have replaced steering ujs before. It looks like a 9/16ths bearing cap. With luck I may be able to find a replacement insert. Otherwise looks like making one up.
