Does the "cartridge" style water pumps for a Twin Cam use the standard water pump components?

I had a Dave Bean cartridge style water pump om my long sold TCS. If I remember, you had to send you stock front cover in order to have it machined to accept the DBE water pump cartridge I never dad it apart to examine the internals. The only component that may be the same is probably the impellor. Why bother with a cartridge water pump, go with an EWP.

Joji,
Mine was modified with a cartridge style water pump created by the other owner,
I am currently having trouble sourcing a replacement bearing shaft and I am thinking
of sleeving the insert to hold an original style shaft, I was curious if the the other ones being
sold use the stock components as mine is one of a kind ….

Going by memory here.  Most water pumps use a 5/8" shaft but the TC's water pump uses a smaller shaft.  This means a smaller diameter bearing and fewer ball bearings which makes for a weaker pump.  I was under the impression that the cartridge pumps also used the larger shaft and bearings.  Measure up what you have and try here fro parts:

What is the O.D. of the Lotus bearing?   (You can measure the i.d. of the other timing cover.)

CW,
I measure .944" (24mm) with dial calipers.

JB, sent an inquiry to the place you suggested....fingers crossed.

I have a Bean cartridge pump on my TC, installed back in 2000.  I bought the whole cover with pump, as Dave was having new made rather than deal with the old castings at that time.  IIRC Dave said the internals on the cartridge pumps were from an Esprit, but if you call Ken at Bean he can set you straight on what Esprit they came from, and possibly where to get those parts.

Jerry,
Thanks for the idea...it turns out the bearing shaft from an early 907 engine (Esprit) will work in my custom made cartridge water
pump...Ray at RD Ent. confirmed the dimensions today and it should be on the way :pirate:
