FS Twin Cam body and frame only, in MA, value ??
« on: Wednesday,September 27, 2023, 04:49:14 PM »
Found a Twin Cam sitting outside in someone’s yard. Body and frame only, it is stripped but has doors, glass, some trim, hardware, maybe some suspension. No engine. Rear deck lid is there behind car in photo. Frame has rust, of course, but looks to be solid.

I can get the VIN and some additional photos if needed. I am looking to see what people think the range of value could be for this. Also, is anyone interested?  If someone wants the car, I will get it from the property owner and take possession of it, if the deal is worth it.  I'd rather not part it out, but will consider it if no one is interested in the whole car.

Post is confusing.

First you say you found the car and then say you won't part the car out?
Did you purchase the car?

 :Welcome: andyhp61!!!

Are you planning on making a care out of it or looking to help sell it?

A frame that has been sitting on dirt for enough time will probably substantially rusted (at least the bottom). Without knowing the condition of the frame a buyer would probably have to consider the frame a total loss. Having all the glass and window frames is a big plus.

I'm notoriously bad at estimating the worth of a car let alone just a body but for a wild guess, I'd say probably no more than $2,000. That's my SWAG and worth every penny you paid for it!

More complete cars than this have been passed around for FREE on the "Dork*" forum.

Gavin:

Sorry if it was not clear, I have modified the post.  I don't have possession of it, but can get it easily from the property owner if I want it.  I would like to sell it (whole preferably) if it is worth the effort of going and getting it.  So I am looking to see what it might be worth, approximately, and if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the clarification.

I'm on the other side of the planet, so, not a potential buyer, but happy to make some harsh observations (nothing personal) as anyone doing due diligence would.

1. There's only one pic which is insufficient to make any concise assessment as to value.
2. Twin Cam engines constitute a significant portion of the value and since it's missing, that makes it easier.
3. No mention of other major components like gearbox, steering etc. . . or even minor stuff like fuel tanks. Rear left upright is missing in the pic, as is the front left hub, so I'd expect there's lots of other stuff missing as well.
4. I would automatically assume anything described as "rust, of course, but looks to be solid" to be toast in the absence of pics.
5. In these cases, it's better to add up the value of what you can actually see.

So, I'd put the value at $1,000 tops, if I was local - rollers usually command more money.
I wouldn't invest more than that because there's costs associated with transport, storage, labour, time and I'd want to have all costs covered if parting it out or selling it on.

But BDA looks like your customer at $2,000.    ;)

Grassroots Motorsports.  There's been one or two "free" Europa's on that board. But from what I've noticed, the free ones are bitsa's and have been (or may end up as) a $2k challenge car.

It’s a moot point. The property owner changed their mind and now say it’s not for sale, even though his health makes it highly unlikely he will ever touch the car.

I have paid $5,000 for complete rolling cars.

There is far too much missing to make it into a viable proposition.

Therefore IMHO it is only worth the parts you can see.

I found their EV reporting way too one-sided and left.
So I am no longer a Dork!
Any criticism of EV's is forbidden there.
And beware, I got ripped for $220.00 trusting a long time poster there.
