guide shoes adjustments

how do i adjust the guide shoes
Should i just put them close as possible without chain touching  i had no problem with tensioner but guide shoes i really need advice

Which engine?

Normal practice is to use two equal sized feeler gauges to set the guide parallel.  Say 0.010”
