are headlamp covers available thanks Derek

Yes. Both Banks and Kelsport sell them. I believe Banks makes them for Kelsport. There are two styles: S1/S2 and TC. They arrive slightly oversize. You have to trim to suit and fab your own holding brackets.
-
The hardest part of fitting the covers is finding brackets that are unobtrusive but can securely hold the covers. I still haven't fitted mine after 10 plus years. I've attached two pictures of an S2 with the covers fitted from a fellow owner

I have the covers but am also dithering about fitting them.

I think it depends if you want to drive in the dark or not ! :)
Our modern cars with covered/molded headlights work well, but I also remember the olden days with the Marcos & it's plastic covers which would fill up with condensation every winter and make night driving, er, "exciting" ? Even with the best halogen lights of the day, nothing really worked. Seal it and use silica gel or leave air holes for ventilation you still got condensation just where you wanted the lights to shine.
Although they look great and fit the profile well, I think the trick would be to make the catches so that it's very easy to remove and clear the inside of the cover, at least in the UK climate.

You have to do it for the look, because I have a press release somewhere from in the day, that states that Lotus was experimenting with the covers for the 47's and they found that the car was more aerodynamic without the covers.

The early Alfa Romeo Duetto- my first car at 16- came fitted with nice headlight covers, but they were illegal in my state, so I had to remove them for the inspection. In the case of the Alfa, it was really designed to have them and complimented the design. The fitment was designed into the buckets, and worked well- the trim ring was removed and there were slots around the headlight and one clamp at the front. They were easily removed with one screw.
I do intend to fit them on my Europa, but I will come up with a clever attachment method.
-
Should you do so, please share. A one screw, no mar option would be great.
One other strike against them is that they will refract some of the headlight's output. S1 E-Types had the same issue. I am going to rig up a temporary mounting to make sure this isn't too much of a problem first.

And, it wasn't that the covers worsened the aerodynamics but that they made no difference at all.
