This is the best I can do. Two new gauges and two old, I could try to clock the fuel and temp gauge so that it is as bright as the other two newer gauges.  It seems I can live with this until the other two crap out.
I’m putting it back together tomorrow but with 4 separate grounds and forget about a daisy chain.

 :Welcome:  jonclancy!!!

Congratulations on your new baby (and your "tiny kids"!)!!

I think we all tolerate "daft questions" around here pretty well so let the fly! There are some very knowledgeable S2 owners here who be glad to answer them! (Being a TC owner and having been humbled in my ignorance of the many ways the S2 and TCs differ, I'm not likely to be an answerer!  ;D )

Why don't you post some pictures when you get a chance. The forum has a restriction on the size of attached files so quite often pictures have to be resized. Here is one method: https://www.lotuseuropa.org/LotusForum/index.php?topic=1379.0. Another is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_55eg00H-w.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself and my recently purchased Lotus.

0167R is a Series 2 Federal that I saw advertised on FB. I fortunately got to view the car while on a work trip and, finally, 0167R is back in Blighty.

I’m based near Swindon, and have been a long-time owner of a Westfield XI - currently looking after the XI forum at https://www.westfield-eleven.org/forum/

This is my first Lotus, and the small car, light-weight aspect of the Europa really appeals.  I’m hoping to get the car roadworthy initially. Any resto will be down the line when I have a little more time for cars rather than tiny kids!

Daft questions to follow - thank you all in advance for your patience.

Cheers

Jon

Technical Articles and DIY tools and tips / Cast iron block cleaning.
« Last post by Richard48Y on Sunday,May 19, 2024, 12:59:42 PM »
Since the EPA was taken over by overzealous crusaders top to bottom is has become nearly impossible to send a cast iron block out for cleaning prior to rebuilding.
So I am forced to do the 1275 Midget block myself.
First I stripped it, then I removed as most of the oil, old grease, crud, gasket residue and such with a scraper, wire brush, and mineral oil.
Now I have gone over it with my soda blaster, inside and out.
That removed all the old paint and gasket residue.
But this really does nothing for internal oil passages or water jacket rust.
So my next step is a bath in caustic soda (Lye).
I will follow that with an electrolysis bath to try to remove rust from the water jackets.
I will update this thread as I make progress.

Update on wheel preparation.
Soda blast is a bit too much for the aluminum tape I was using to mask the bright areas.
So I'm going to use chemical stripper then try to only have to soda blast the cast area lightly to provide a good clean surface for painting.
I may cheat and just use epoxy paint instead of PP as I do not have my own oven and the PP shop is both expensive and backed up for months.

I worked on some of these issues a little while ago.
While I certainly don't think I am an expert I did find a solution for my car. My method is below:

Have you had a chance to evaluate how this shroud is working for you?

If everything is tight as you say, then plug the overflow vent and the fuel pickup tube and see what happens over time.
