Post by: kram350kram on Monday,January 25, 2021, 04:51:09 PM
Anyone know the weight of a totally stripped TCS, bare fiberglass body only? Thanks

Out of curiosity - why do you want to know? (If for the purpose of moving it around, I can personally vouch that fully stripped, 2 strong guys can lift it - but you wouldn't want to carry it far.... :FUNNY:). Any help?

I don’t know the weight either but can also confirm that two strong people can lift the body (without doors) easily and move it around. When I brought my body back from the paint shop I had 4 friends help me bring it from the truck into my shop, but that was only to make sure I didn’t bump into anything.

Video of carrying my Europa body into my shop.

That’s a BAaaaD Motha,   I still love your garage Certified .

Just a guess-stament,  I would say without doors and lids at 400 lbs-450 range.

Thinking of hanging from the ceiling rafters while working on the chassis.

Thinking of hanging from the ceiling rafters while working on the chassis.

I’ve seen photos of others doing that. Supported body with 2x4’s underneath. Someone used a sheet of plywood.

I put my body on sawhorses and the frame underneath. Not ideal but not as terrible as it sounds. Hanging the body from the rafters sounds a lot better. If your ceiling isn’t finished, wrapping a rope around the rafters wouldn’t cause me to have a second thought. Screwing an eye hook in the rafters might because I am nobody’s carpenter and have no feel for that. Out of an over abundance of caution, I might use two eye hooks at each corner spread about six or more inches to spread the load.

I left my Europa body up high on the lift while I worked on the chassis. It stayed there for 6 months. I used a roll around shop seat to do the work at floor level on the chassis and drive train.
