Title: Sudden electric window issue
Post by: Europa73 on Saturday,September 16, 2017, 10:04:03 AM
Hi all,

just getting the car ready for the Bronte car show (I am entering the Europa - fingers crossed)

Everything working great (finally) then suddenly my my passenger side electric window stopped working.

When I activate the window switch I see a dip in the volt meeter - but - no movement in the window.

Any thoughts on what it could before I start pulling everything apart?

Many thanks,

The gear on the motor can jam on the stops. Mine will sometimes jam in the down position (it's always the passenger side, too!). I can't remember if I was able to un-jam it by hand or if it was one of those times when I took it apart and put it together and it started working.

Since your volt meter moves, it doesn't sound electrical, but I'd make sure all the fuse and electrical connections are in good shape. That's something I always forget to do!

Many thanks for the quick response.

The Gremlins are biting hard.

Luckily I have speakers in the door cards. Took the speakers out and took a good hold of that wiring

Tested the earth - tested the voltage going to the windows. all good :-0

Then run a line from the + on the battery directly to the window motor and "WHAT" it works??

Connected all the wiring back up and ...... It worked like nothing was ever wrong????

At least its working and all polished up ready for the show.

:)  that's a Lotus for you. Lulling you into a false sense of security, the motor is waiting until you drop the window on a rainy day and then it'll get ya !

Clean your window switches.

Yep, I would bet on dirty switch contacts.
