I know this to be a Europa Forum...but I was wondering if anyone had a clue as to where I would find the chassis and engine numbers on a 1961 Elite? Thanks in advance for any help that may be offered.

You might try contacting Andy Graham who is the archivist at Lotus (agraham@lotuscars.com) if you don't get an answer from somebody else.

Scroll down here for locations of chassis and engine numbers:

The location of the identifying plate is shown in their video as well:

Hi,
This clip may be of help.

Mike Ostrov used to be the registrar for the Lotus Elite group. I went to see him in his lovely workshop in The Bay Area last month. Very friendly and he will have all the information you need. A friend of his has an S2 Europa being restored in his shop. mikeostrov at webtv dot net.
The Elite is the next one on the wish list!

I’ve just dug out my copy of Denis Ortenburger’s excellent book on the Lotus Elite. In one of the appendices it has the original production/delivery sheets. If you have the unit number I can find out the original engine number for you. I’m off to Toronto for the night and will be back on Monday morning. It may be quicker to contact Mike directly if you’re in a hurry.

Hi Kerry,
The plate is just in-front of the left hand bonnet hinge and above the brake and clutch reservoirs.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Willa.
