Ever wonder..., WHY?
« on: Sunday,March 28, 2021, 02:50:01 PM »
We all know the ashtrays we’re needed back in the day , heck , I believe Japan still smokes heavily.
But ,
         WHY
If you’re going to have an ashtray
          WHY,
Would you not put a lighter in ????
As an ex smoker , that is just cruel .

    Thoughts?

They did in mine.....you can just see it to the left of the left steering wheel spoke here (bottom picture)--》http://www.lotuseuropa.org/LotusForum/index.php?topic=3253.msg33085#msg33085
I think the UK was just showing our belief in fate,  or lack of health and safety, as they gave us a more powerful engine, no emissions equipment, single circuit brakes, no seat belt warning and no hazard warning lights! Or maybe they trusted us to not to use the cigarette lighter to see where the petrol was leaking from?

Actually maybe it was only an option on the Twin Cam

Hmmm, I’ll check the schematics on that.

That’s how I found the washer pump was wrong on my S2 , with help from others that it was not a mistake on the schematic.

On my Type 54, I ditched the column stalks for later Triumph 2500 stuff which incorporated electric washers, plus the horn connection was always a bit dicky.
That left a hole where the washer pump used to reside so I filled it with a cigarette lighter.

I also have that horizontal switch above the interior fan/rad fan switch but it isn't connected to anything.
What's that supposed to be . . dash illumination?
The Parts manual seems to label that switch as "Switch - Blanking".

Again  TCS, the horizontal switch is labelled "PANEL" and does indeed turn the instrument backlight on and off. I  believe this the Federal's had a dimmer for the backlights!

1st pic - dunno, aside from the obvious bodge, not enough visual info.

2nd pic - looks to be the earth for the window motor?
Your red & blue wires seem to be of lighter gauge than mine but that could be an optical illusion.

3rd pic - That bracket attaches the lower edge of the dash to the chassis backbone and also serves as an earth point.

4th & 5th pic - can't tell much due to the apparent different wiring configs.
Interestingly, the switches don't seem to be stock and while the plastic faces are white, they seem to be the correct shape!
What brand etc. are the switches?

BDA , yep, 🤷🏼‍♂️😂. I started a bucket of show and tell items. 😂

   Gavin,
Pic 1 , that ground wire is a loop! Not connected to under dash lug.  completely installed thru the door rings, soldered, terminated . Only on one side .

Pic 2, switches not original according to the print ( 3 vs 6 terminals) and now you 👍 I only checked the ground strands, black wires and so far found 14 and 19 strands,  I’ll be ordering wire soon.

Pic3,  correct , I have dual lugs . I love the connection made from one side of that to the other.

Pic 4 /5   I’ll check the mfg . They did fit perfectly , however I will not be using them and I’ll have a relay mod installed instead.

There was also a ground wire route that I laughed about , rear side marker ground to interior light ???
It’s true!

Well, I reckon hanging up the whole loom like that's a good idea.
You can pretty much test and fix all the gremlins where you can see it.

It’s nice to work sitting in front of a fan.👍👍
I just looked for some ID on those rocker switches only a 451 number , not even a logo mark.

Also documenting Item location /color/ strands/ and length of wires .

I was wrong about the rear marker light grd   it was the red power wire from light switch  . I need to fix the schematics labels.

Califkid,   According to the print not original to the Fed S2  .  S1s,  yes!
I’ve wondered about that why an ashtray and no lighter? As an ex smoker, that would have been totally unacceptable.
Pulled a few more wires out of harness today .😂
