Shoes

I nearly hit a car in a supermarket car park today as my normal shoes were too wide, and I could not hit the brake pedal quickly enough when a car appeared from nowhere.

I have Sparco racing shoes which are about 1/2" narrower on the sole than the normal shoes I wear, but they are very tight on my feet.

I hope the racing shoes loosen up with wear. They take a while to put on, but hopefully they will be better than the carpet slippers I have used before.

Does anyone else have problem with shoes being too wide to hit the right pedals at the right time?

Yep, and I'm not totally convinced it's my feet spreading either because I have a pair of old trainers that fit fine and don't brush the adjacent pedals.

A few months ago we went to the Outlet Village in Spalding and new trainers were on the shopping list because there's a couple of sports shops there. After looking at walls of shoes until I got bored I came away empty handed (footed ?) because everything I saw had wedge shaped profile to the soles which made them wider than the actual shoe fitting. No doubt this is good for load distribution but not so good for driving an old Lotus.  Clown shoes came to mind.

I know you can get specialist driving shoes but the thing is I don't want to get out of the car looking like I've just come off a track day.  So yep, I'm with you on that one.....
