Title: Headlight units help
Post by: phil on Saturday,April 01, 2017, 12:42:56 PM
Hello all,

Just had my TC mot'd all good, apart from being told that my headlights are for a LHD vehicle and as such the dipped beam goes the wrong way!!
It says on it Wipac 7370 20R/14. I need to replace them asap with the correct units, any recommendations, codes etc?

Thanks    Phil

Get Cibie H180 headlights, with sidelights.

Easily available on eBay.

Any UK British parts supplier will have RH drive headlights.

I never heard of such a thing? Headlights don't know if it's left hand drive or not. Somebodies pulling an April Fools day gag.

Umm, no.  Automotive headlights come in RH or LH dip.  Some headlights have an adjustable bulb holder so you can switch.

No April fool's gag, as John says we Brits do have headlights which dip to the other side of the road. I don't know if it still happens with modern cars but at one point you'd have to stick bits of plastic on your headlamp if you were driving on the continent to prevent your headlamps dazzling other drivers.

Thanks for posting that link, Brian. I have often wondered how Brits dealt with the head lamp issue when travelling on the continent. Very interesting.

We drive on the left on the continent and avoid all the other cars driving on the wrong side of the road.

The French used to flash their lights if our lights dipped their way, but were not tinted yellow. Quite why they decided that yellow headlights were better, I do not know.

The French decided yellow headlights were easier on the eyes by having less "glare".  I don't think they require yellow lights anymore.
